Though it was called “Peace in the City,” a back to school giveaway Saturday afternoon in Titusville was anything but. An unnamed gunman went into the park looking for someone he had fought with three weeks ago over a basketball game, WFTV reported. The individuals faced off in a fistfight. The shooter left, returned with a gun a few minutes later, and opened fire in the crowded area. Thankfully, a heroic citizen with a permit to legally carry a concealed handgun was able to save countless lives when he shot and critically injured the shooter.
Dwight Harvey, an adult who was DJing at the party, had his cellphone trained on the festivities, live-streaming to his Facebook page as kids and their parents rifled through backpacks stuffed with new school supplies.
Fortunately, only the attacker was injured in Titusville. The gun permit holder shot him in the head to keep the attacker from shooting any children and adults in the park. Neither the permit holder nor the attacker have been identified so far by police. The attacker suffered life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized.
